Muscle Energy Techniques (MET)

Tired of tight, overworked muscles? Muscle Energy Techniques use gentle movements to release tension, restore balance, and improve your flexibility.

Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) are a form of manual therapy used in physical therapy to treat musculoskeletal dysfunctions, improve range of motion, and alleviate pain. MET involves the patient actively contracting specific muscles against a controlled resistance provided by the therapist. The technique works by using the patient's own muscle contractions to help mobilize and stretch tight muscles or restricted joints, promoting relaxation and lengthening of the affected tissue.

In MET, the therapist guides the patient through a series of isometric contractions (where the muscle is contracted without changing its length) followed by a stretch. This process helps to release muscle tightness, improve joint mobility, and restore proper movement patterns. The technique is particularly effective for treating muscle spasms, stiffness, and restrictions in both acute and chronic conditions, such as back pain, neck pain, or shoulder tightness.

MET is also beneficial for addressing muscle imbalances, postural issues, and joint misalignments. By targeting specific muscle groups, the technique helps to re-educate muscles to function more efficiently, improving overall biomechanics and preventing further injury. MET is gentle and well-tolerated, making it an ideal treatment for individuals with sensitive or weakened muscles, and can be incorporated into a comprehensive rehabilitation plan to maximize recovery and long-term functional improvement.
